GENE SUMMARY |
---|
Nitric oxide is a reactive free radical which acts as a biologic mediator in several processes, including neurotransmission and antimicrobial and antitumoral activities. Nitric oxide is synthesized from L-arginine by nitric oxide synthases. Variations in this gene are associated with susceptibility to corory spasm. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, May 2009] |
OBSERVATION |
---|
1. Association of NOS3 VNTR with microangiopathy was then analyzed in the subgroup of obese diabetic subjects. In addition, NOS3 G894T was also examined. In diabetic neuropathy, while the 4a allele of NOS3 VNTR showed a protective effect, the 4b allele and thus the 4b4b genotype were associated with DPN, and to our knowledge, this is the first report of such an association |
