GENE SUMMARY |
---|
This gene encodes a member of the ADAM (a disintegrin and metalloprotease domain) family. Members of this family are membrane-anchored proteins structurally related to snake venom disintegrins, and have been implicated in a variety of biologic processes involving cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions, including fertilization, muscle development, and neurogenesis. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate the mature protease. The encoded protease functions in the ectodom |
OBSERVATIONS |

Complication | Evidence | PMID |
Nephropathy | 1. A disintegrin and metalloproteinase 17 (ADAM17)-mediated shedding of renal ACE2 contribute to diabetic nephropathy pathogenesis. | 24756098 |
Atherosclerosis | 1. In atherosclerotic plaques from subjects with type 2 diabetes, the deregulation of ADAM17 and MMP9 activities is related to idequate expression of TIMP3 via SirT1 | 19581416 |
Insulin resistance and inflammation | 1. Evidence is provided that ADAM17 plays a role in atherosclerosis, in adipose tissue metabolism, insulin resistance and diabetes. | 23384719 |
