GENE SUMMARY
This gene encodes apolipoprotein A-I, which is the major protein component of high density lipoprotein (HDL) in plasma. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate the mature protein, which promotes cholesterol efflux from tissues to the liver for excretion, and is a cofactor for lecithin cholesterolacyltransferase (LCAT), an enzyme responsible for the formation of most plasma cholesteryl esters. This gene is closely linked with two other apolipoprotein genes on chromosome

OBSERVATIONS

Complication Evidence PMID
Cardiovascular1.In conclusion , because various genes, LDLR, CETP, APOA5, Apo E, Apo B, and Apo A-I, are associated with the precipitation of CAD associated with T2DM, a personalized diet-gene intervention therapy may be advocated to reduce the disease precipitation.25470794
Retinopathy1. ApoA1 overexpression is an early event in the retina of diabetic patients and can be involved in the physiopathology of diabetic retinopathy18848320
Atherosclerosis1. cathepsin D-ApoA-I truncation may lead to ApoA-Idelta(1-38) binding to LDLs, increasing their susceptibility to oxidation and contributing to the high cardiovascular risk of DM patients.26168996
Neuropathy1. This study is amid at investigating the associations, and interactions of serum lipid biomarkers with microvascular complications of type 2 diabetes (T2D).[1]Serum triglyceride had the strongest association with microvascular complications of T2D (crude model: ?=0.632, P value=0.045).[2] Despite high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), serum apolipoprotein A1 (Apo A1) was positively associated with the presence of diabetic neuropathy.[3]?28934670
Dyslipidemia1. This increased risk appears to be due to South Asian dyslipidemia, which is characterized by high serum levels of apolipoprotein B, lipoprotein (a), and triglycerides and low levels of apolipoprotein A1 and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol.18059210
