GENE SUMMARY |
---|
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the PI3/PI4-kinase family. This protein is an important cell cycle checkpoint kinase that phosphorylates; thus, it functions as a regulator of a wide variety of downstream proteins, including tumor suppressor proteins p53 and BRCA1, checkpoint kinase CHK2, checkpoint proteins RAD17 and RAD9, and D repair protein NBS1. This protein and the closely related kinase ATR are thought to be master controllers of cell cycle checkpoint signaling pathways that ar |

Complication | Evidence | PMID |
Cardiovascular | 1. Significant up-regulation of the MSH2 (2. 49-fold, P=0.001), XRCC1 (2. 11-fold, P=0.001) and ATM (2. 15-fold, P=0.003) genes was observed in patients with T2DM and CAD. | 26088318 |
Insulin resistance and inflammation | 1. An immunofluorescence experiment demonstrated that in L6 cells transfected with wild-type (WT) ATM, insulin caused a dramatic increase of the cell surface glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4), while in cells transfected with kinase-dead (KD) ATM, translocation of GLUT4 to the cell surface in response to insulin was markedly inhibited. | 18534819 |
