GENE SUMMARY |
---|
The intracellular fatty acid-binding proteins (FABPs) belong to a multigene family with nearly twenty identified members. FABPs are divided into at least three distinct types, mely the hepatic-, intestil- and cardiac-type. They form 14-15 kDa proteins and are thought to participate in the uptake, intracellular metabolism and/or transport of long-chain fatty acids. They may also be responsible in the modulation of cell growth and proliferation. Intestil fatty acid-binding protein 2 gene contains |
OBSERVATIONS |

Complication | Evidence | PMID |
Nephropathy | 1. FABP2 confers susceptibility to renal disease in type 2 diabetic patients. | 16249461 |
Atherosclerosis | 1. CONCLUSIONS: The Thr54 allele of the FABP2 Ala54Thr polymorphism was associated with an increased incidence of peripheral atherosclerosis combined with T2DM in the population studied | 27778448 |
Dyslipidemia | 1. In type 2 diabetes, the threonine (Thr) for alanine (Ala) codon 54 polymorphism of the fatty acid binding protein 2 gene is associated with elevated fasting and postprandial triglycerides and dyslipidemia when compared with the wild type (Ala-54/Ala-54). | 12161503 |
