GENE SUMMARY
This gene belongs to the forkhead family of transcription factors which are characterized by a distinct forkhead domain. The specific function of this gene has not yet been determined; however, it may play a role in myogenic growth and differentiation. Translocation of this gene with PAX3 has been associated with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

OBSERVATIONS

Complication Evidence PMID
Atherosclerosis1. FOXO1 deacetylation can promote vascular endothelial changes conducive to atherosclerotic plaque formation. Experiments in isolated endothelial cells from Foxo1(KR/KR) mice indicate that deacetylation favors FoxO1 nuclear accumulation and exerts target gene-specific effects, ing in higher Icam1 and TnfA expression and increased monocyte adhesion. The data indicate that FoxO1 deacetylation can promote vascular endothelial changes conducive to atherosclerotic plaque formation.22389493
Nephropathy1. FOXO1 play an important role in the pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy (DN).28860538
Insulin resistance and inflammation1. Furthermore, augmented hepatic FOXO1 expression and decreased phosphorylation were found to be associated with elevated pro-inflammatory cytokine production in high fat diet-induced obese and db/db mice.22223069
