GENE SUMMARY |
---|
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) family. It is localized in the lumen of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), and is involved in the folding and assembly of proteins in the ER. As this protein interacts with many ER proteins, it may play a key role in monitoring protein transport through the cell.[provided by RefSeq, Sep 2010] |

Complication | Evidence | PMID |
Neuropathy | 1. Our study suggested that the GRP78 rs391957 promoter polymorphism is a potential risk factor for type 2 diabetic peripheral neuropathy. | 26005757 |
Insulin resistance and inflammation | 1. Here, we show that mice with macrophage-selective ablation of GRP78 (Lyz- GRP78-/-) are protected from skeletal muscle insulin resistance without changes in obesity compared with wild-type mice after 9 wk of high-fat diet. | 29242277 |
