GENE SUMMARY
This gene encodes a secreted, 16 kDa protein that acts as a chemotactic factor to neutrophils and stimulates the growth of chondrocytes and osteoblasts. This protein has high sequence similarity to the chondromodulin repeat regions of the chicken myb-induced myeloid 1 protein. A polymorphism in this gene may be associated with rheumatoid arthritis. OBSERVATIONS

Complication Evidence PMID
Retinopathy1. These findings indicated that serum LECT2 level is negatively associated with the presence of DR and suggest that low circulating LECT2 level is a risk factor for DR.27816666
Insulin resistance and inflammation1. The level of phosphorylated c-Jun N-terminal kinases (JNK) was significantly increased by LECT2 treatment in HUVECs (Human umbilical vein endothelial cells) and THP-1 cells, an effect that was not seen in cells treated with CD209 siRNA, a known LECT2 receptor. 26123523
