GENE SUMMARY
This gene encodes the fourth largest subunit of R polymerase II, the polymerase responsible for synthesizing messenger R in eukaryotes. In yeast, this polymerase subunit is associated with the polymerase under suboptimal growth conditions and may have a stress protective role. A sequence for a ribosomal pseudogene is contained within the 3' untranslated region of the transcript from this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Retinopathy1. RBP4 may be involved in the process of diabetic retinopathy and may be a novel biomarker for its diagnosis and treatment in diabetic patients.20233518
Insulin resistance and inflammation1. RBP4 inhibits the signal pathways stimulated by insulin in skeletal muscle cells, resulting in the development of insulin resistance ; It summarizes the current state of knowledge on the potential role of RBP4 in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases, particularly related to insulin resistance.28026829
