GENE SUMMARY |
---|
Protein kinase C (PKC) zeta is a member of the PKC family of serine/threonine kinases which are involved in a variety of cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation and secretion. Unlike the classical PKC isoenzymes which are calcium-dependent, PKC zeta exhibits a kinase activity which is independent of calcium and diacylglycerol but not of phosphatidylserine. Furthermore, it is insensitive to typical PKC inhibitors and cannot be activated by phorbol ester. Unlike the classical PKC |

Complication | Evidence | PMID |
Insulin resistance and inflammation | 1. By using ex vivo and in vivo experiments, we demonstrate that although PKCzeta is involved in the alternative (M2) activation of macrophages, surprisingly, PKCzeta ablation in the nonhematopoietic compartment but not in the hematopoietic system is sufficient to drive inflammation and IL-6 synthesis in the adipose tissue, as well as insulin resistance. | 20620996 |
