GENE SUMMARY |
---|
This gene encodes a secreted chemotactic protein that initiates chemotaxis via the ChemR23 G protein-coupled seven-transmembrane domain ligand. Expression of this gene is upregulated by the synthetic retinoid tazarotene and occurs in a wide variety of tissues. The active protein has several roles, including that as an adipokine and as an antimicrobial protein with activity against bacteria and fungi. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2014] |
OBSERVATIONS |
---|
Complication | Evidence | PMID |
Cardiovascular | 1. High chemerin concentrations are significantly associated with renal impairment and predictive of cardiovascular events and that 15q15-23 might have an impact on chemerin levels beyond common genetic variations in RARRES2. | 26304698 |
Insulin resistance and inflammation | 1. First, next to leptin, the circulating mediators chemerin, tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 1, EGF and TNF receptor 2 were identified as novel inflammatory mediators that are increased in childhood obesity. | 22806355 |
