GENE SUMMARY |
---|
This gene belongs to the TIMP gene family. The proteins encoded by this gene family are inhibitors of the matrix metalloproteises a group of peptidases involved in degradation of the extracellular matrix (ECM). Expression of this gene is induced in response to mitogenic stimulation and this netrin domain-containing protein is localized to the ECM. Mutations in this gene have been associated with the autosomal domint disorder Sorsby's fundus dystrophy. [provided by RefSeq Jul 2008] |
OBSERVATIONS |
---|
Complication | Evidence | PMID |
Nephropathy | 1. Our data provide definitive evidence for a critical and selective role of TIMP3 in diabetic renal injury consistent with gene expression findings from human diabetic kidneys. | 22896043 |
Retinopathy | 1. Among the genes encoding for MMPs and TIMPs expressed in retinal pericytes, TIMP3 is uniquely regulated by HOG-LDL. Reduced TIMP3 expression might contribute to microvascular abnormalities in diabetic retinopathy. | 17676308 |
Atherosclerosis | 1. Systemic insulin resistance and subclinical atherosclerosis are associated with decreased IRS2 and TIMP3 expression in circulating monocytes. | 21984580 |
Insulin resistance and Inflammation | 1.TIMP3 overexpression in macrophages resulted in reduced activation of oxidative stress signals related to lipid peroxidation, protein carbonylation, and nitration in WAT and liver. | 22228717 |
